After a dismal year in which job cuts were coming fast and furious from many of America’s largest and most stable companies, the announced 22,000 job openings by Walmart to add personnel to existing stores as well as the opening of additional Walmart locations came as a welcome relief to the American economy and to the country’s unemployed. It also gave job seekers a place to focus on for employment opportunities.   Walmart is the second largest company in the United States, according to the most recent Forbes 500 list of America’s largest corporations.Company revenues were in excess of $400 billion. In the U.S. alone the company employs more than 1.4 million individuals at 2,447 Supercenters, 971 discount stores, 591 Sam’s Clubs, and 132 Neighborhood Markets. Many job seekers will find a choice of store locations that don’t require relocating to work at.  There is a process a job seeker must go through to locate and apply for one of the available job openings. It starts with going on line to one of the many jobs available sites to find available positions and location, then filling out a detailed employment application, going in for a job interview with local management and then waiting out the internal review process before being notified of a hiring decision.   The time and effort involved with applying for one of the available jobs in Walmart can seem long but if you get the job it is worth all of the wait.

That in and of itself is a good reason to consider a job at Walmart as health insurance rates are just about through the roof.Some of the long term career positions are pharmacists, warehousemen, truck drivers, merchandisers, buyers, accountants and even cashiers. With the varied opportunities, the great benefits and the opportunity for advancement, it’s not so strange to see why so many people are looking to land a job at Walmart so they can turn that job into a career.
